There is a common saying in Church circles that young people are “the future of the Church.” While this is true, it is incomplete. Young people are also the Church of today — active, energetic, faithful members of the Body of Christ whose gifts, insights, and zeal are not to be postponed to some future date but embraced, nurtured, and celebrated right now.
The Catholic Diocese of Wote understands this deeply. Across its eight Deaneries and dozens of parishes, the Diocese has made the formation, empowerment, and accompaniment of young people a central pastoral priority. From vibrant youth groups at the parish level to diocesan-wide formation programmes, the Church of Wote is investing in its young people — and reaping a rich harvest.
Youth ministry in the Diocese of Wote is not a single programme — it is an ecosystem. It includes faith formation, leadership development, social engagement, cultural expression, and community service, all woven together into a rich and holistic experience of belonging to the Church.
Parish Youth Groups
At the foundation of youth ministry are the parish youth groups found in every corner of the Diocese. These groups gather young people — typically between the ages of 15 and 35 — for prayer, catechesis, fellowship, and service. They are the frontline of youth formation: where faith is discussed, friendships are built, and the seeds of lifelong discipleship are planted.
Many of these groups are affiliated with diocesan and national Catholic youth associations, giving their members a broader sense of connection to the universal Church. Youth group meetings are often characterised by lively discussion, passionate prayer, and a genuine desire to understand and live the Catholic faith in the modern world.
Choir and Liturgical Participation
Music and liturgy are among the most powerful entry points for young people into the life of the Church. The Diocese’s vibrant choir ministry — present in parishes across all eight Deaneries — gives young people a meaningful, creative role in the celebration of the Mass. Through choirs, young people not only serve the liturgy but deepen their own prayer life and sense of belonging to the worshipping community.
The Diocese’s Liturgical Department works closely with youth to ensure that the celebration of the Eucharist is both reverent and accessible — a living encounter with the risen Christ that speaks to the hearts of every generation.
Formation and Catechesis
Alongside devotional and liturgical engagement, the Diocese places strong emphasis on intellectual and spiritual formation. Young people are encouraged not only to practice their faith but to understand it — to engage with Scripture, to know the teachings of the Church, and to be able to articulate and defend their faith with confidence and charity.
This formation takes place through catechism classes, Bible study groups, youth retreats, and diocesan formation days that bring young people together from across the Diocese for intensive, joyful, and challenging encounters with the faith.
Among the most sacred aspects of youth ministry is the work of Vocations — accompanying young people who sense that God may be calling them to a deeper commitment, whether to the priesthood, religious life, or consecrated lay life.
The Diocese of Wote takes the promotion of vocations very seriously. In a region where the Church is growing and the need for priests, sisters, and brothers is great, fostering vocations is not a luxury — it is a necessity for the future of the Diocese.
The Vocations Office
The Diocesan Vocations Office works to create an environment in which young people can hear God’s call clearly and respond generously. This includes:
Seminarians and Religious in Formation
The Diocese is proud to support a number of young men currently in seminary formation and young women in religious formation with various congregations. These future priests and sisters represent the hope and the future of the Diocese — and they carry in their hearts the prayers, the sacrifices, and the support of the entire diocesan community.
Supporting a seminarian or a religious in formation — financially, spiritually, and through prayer — is one of the most impactful contributions any member of the Diocese can make to the long-term flourishing of the Church in Wote.
If you are a young Catholic in the Diocese of Wote, know this: you are not alone. The Church sees you, values you, and needs you. Your faith, your questions, your doubts, your energy, and your dreams are all welcome in this community.
You do not need to have everything figured out. Faith is a journey, not a destination. What matters is that you keep walking — with your parish community, with your fellow young Catholics, with your priests and catechists — one step at a time, in the footsteps of Christ.
And if you sense, even faintly, that God might be calling you to something more — to the priesthood, to religious life, to a deeper consecration — do not be afraid. Speak to your parish priest. Contact the Vocations Office. Give God the space to speak, and trust that He who calls is faithful.
Are you a young person wanting to get more involved in the life of the Diocese? Here is how:
The Diocese of Wote is richer for every young person who chooses to be not just a member but an active, passionate, missionary disciple of Jesus Christ.
“Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in conduct, in love, in faith and in purity.” — 1 Timothy 4:12
